I recently learned of a new food cart pod called PDX Food Pod that will open up on NE Halsey right on the Portland/Gresham Border. It’s basically just down the road from the St George Antiochian Orthodox Church (home to the annual and excellent Middle Eastern Festival), and about a half mile east of the NE corner of the Glendoveer Golf Course.
I reached out to Roya Baradar, my contact at the pod, for more information. “We’re thrilled to introduce our new food pod venture, designed to grow and adapt with the community,” she explained. “Our goal is to create a hub where food cart owners can unite, share their offerings, and build a sense of community. We’re also excited to offer a permanent, stable location for food cart entrepreneurs, enhancing Portland’s dynamic food scene.”
Here are some details as to what to expect at PDX Food Pod:
- 14 outdoor food carts (4×8 ft)
- 5 indoor vendors
- Ample indoor seating
- A bar called “Break Time,” serving local beer, wine, and cider
- Seasonal events
- Wide-screen TVs for watching sports events
They look forward to offering a welcoming space for people of all ages.
They are aiming for a grand opening in February 2025. This will be a nice amenity for folks in outer Northeast Portland, including the residents of Summerplace, a “resort style community for active adults 55 and over” who are just north of the incoming pod.
I’ll also take this opportunity to tell you that another outer east Portland food pod, Chop Chop Food Carts (17150 SE Powell Blvd) is getting close to opening, too. It’s great to see food cart pods establishing themselves in east Portland.
The PDX Food Pod folks continue to work hard to open in NE Portland. I’ll keep an eye on it and bring you updates as I get them.
